Women in History Poll

We pose the question: if an American woman of historical note were to be given a national holiday, who would that woman be? This poll will continue until February 2006. Check back here for updates on the poll. We will keep a running tally on the website and will print and post the final results in February 2006. Then the real work begins. Once we have an idea of the overall favorite candidate, we will sponsor efforts to have our first-ever national woman’s holiday for that woman’s birthday. Vote now, or learn more about the Nominees.

In the list of women’s names below, please number only five (5) of them with the first one being your first choice and so on. Place the numbers to the left side of the names you choose in your email. We ask that any write-in candidates be American women of historical note and deceased. Write-in candidates should be e-mailed to survey@penwomanship.com with “Write-in candidate” in the subject line or mailed to

Copy and paste the following 15 names into an email to survey@penwomanship.com, with your numbered selections or mail to

Request for Assistance with Survey

Assistance #1: Please copy and paste the survey into a separate e-mail and then send it to EVERYONE you know.

Then, please respond to the survey yourself. Feel free to post the survey on a website, print it out, pass it out, post it on bulletin boards, etc. etc. I really want and need to get as many numbers as possible.

Assistance #2: I have 5000 4x6 promotional/subscription cards for Penwomanship that I need distributed to bookstores, coffee shops, libraries, beauty salons, doctors’ offices, dentists’ offices ... anyplace someone will allow them to be placed. I am already in the process of distributing another 5000 throughout Atlanta but would like to get some in other areas of the
country as well.

I would like to send as many of you as possible about 50 of those cards. But only if 1) you want to, 2) you have the time, 3) you have the energy and 4) you’re in the United States (I know one of you either isn’t or soon will be out of the country.) And a couple of you I have already sent some of the cards to. But those of you who would like to assist with the cards, just zip me off an e-mail and let me know.

Thank ya’ll for your help.

Make it a great one.
