Scenes From the Bookstore

By Cherilyn Ferroggiaro

I:
And it was there that day
In the bookstore,
Covering the countless aisles,
A canvas of sketchings,

A composition to be resumed, Re-read, month after month.

The unseen minutes between

Vanished in the after light,
A love affair, more: an awkward boy
Looking over at a girl,
Leading her away from the novels,

Into the perfect kiss.

II:
I think about him everyday, dream
Of his face, of the way his laughter
Rose above the lights, then falling

And blending into the stars
That were lucent in my eyes.
We spent days together,
An instant correlation,
Then he was gone.
And when I returned to the store seeking
An answer, or never really understanding

The beauty of it all;
The clerk turned me away.
