Hearts of Stone

By Karolina Mjeda

Circles of stones gather in a field.
Silent, solemn, sad-eyed, they bow their heads,
thinking of the things they've seen,
the battles,
the bloodshed,
the death.
So senseless.
"Whatever for?" they ask.
"We are all of the earth,
all made of the same clay."
