Every Day My Face

By Kristi Holdgrafer

Every day I look in the mirror
Fresh face, clean face
Backlit with blood and spirit
Color, contour, shade
Every night, sweat and tears smear it

Tired dull and dirty
Looking up I see ugly
Wrinkle, crease, cake
Fake
Lashes gone straight

The girl in the mirror
Tan, wet and clean
Subtle and perfect,
Will never be seen

More and more the mirror,
Tired, red and worn
Dry, gray nights
Blood and Spirit in the morn
