Continuum

By Nancy Tripp King

I was reared to revere
the male as superior,
one step below God.

A son
and granddaughter later,
I know better.

I struggled
to condition my husband
to my liberated way of thinking
and thought that era ended
until I overheard that granddaughter
whispering to Barbie:

Man is better than woman,
because woman was made
from man’s rib.
